DALLAS-- At the youthful age of 21, Troye Sivan has become a pop sensation from down under while influencing teens worldwide!
"I come from a very isolated city in Australia and I just started uploading videos and throwing it up there to see what would happen," Troye told NewsFix in an exclusive interview. "Then I started getting comments and stuff and realizing that it wasn't just numbers on a screen or whatever. These were real people with real stories and real opinions."
That's when he decided to take things to the next level! He wanted to express himself through music. Which has successfully taken him from YouTube views to Billboard charts.
"It is so insane, I think it's one of those things you can never wrap your head around," he added.
We got a chance to catch up with the singer during the Dallas leg of his Surburbia Tour! Several fans had camped overnight just to get as close to Troye as possible.
"I just think he's a great inspiration for people, said one fan.
"I like how he uses his platform for really good things instead of just promoting himself," another fan added.
For this particular tour, Troye is using his platform to give back in a big way! He's donating a portion of ticket sales to the Ally Coalition supporting LGBTQ communities across the nation-- including right here in DFW.
"We're working with the Resource Center on their program called youth first which is actually the only program for LGBTQ people in Dallas," Troye explained. "If they need socks, if they need canned food or whatever, we ask people to bring that to the show."
Troye's passion to help others dates back to 2013 when he came out to the world in one of his YouTube videos. It reached over 7-million views earning him one of Time magazine's most influential teens.
Through it all, Troye believes his early success couldn't happen without those same people he met years ago through a computer screen.
