COPPELL – Team Romo vs Team Dak isn`t the only sports story splitting the Metroplex in two right now. You might be surprised to know that this year`s World Series is doing much the same. It`s because of a couple of pitchers who have local ties to DFW; Indians ace Corey Kluber and Cubs star Jake Arrieta, both Cy Young award winners.

Arietta grew up in Plano where he starred at Plano East Senior High School then went on to play for TCU.

Kluber on the other hand attended Coppell high school where he had to overcome some early adversity after sustaining a stress fracture in his elbow that required surgery. We`d say Cleveland’s lead man has bounced back nicely after setting a world series record by recording 8 strikeouts in the first 3 innings of Game 1.

Head coach Kendall Clark and Coppell baseball is proud to have Kluber as an alumnus, “We feel like he’s one of our own and we know him and we root for him.”

Clark says the school is looking forward to celebrating Kluber win or lose, “We are planning on doing something at the field. It would be nice if we could say Cy Young winner and World Series champion but yeah we have something in the plans to recognize him and his achievements and it started here.”

We’ll see which pitcher will be able to bring World Series glory back to their hometown.
