FORT WORTH - It was back to work for one Fort Worth Officer who has been waiting for this day for several months.

Back in March, Officer Matt Pearce was shot during a gun battle with Ed McIver, Sr.

Cops were  trying to serve the fugitive a warrant before a chase took place.  McIver was eventually shot and killed by police.

Officer Pearce has been in rehab for the past seven months. Tuesday was his first day back to work.

"I got really lucky and didn't sustain any brain injury, no hearing loss, no vision loss. My brain's on par but my bodies definitely not," Officer Pearce said.

Back to roll call with his tactical medic unit that provides medical help while patrolling the streets.

The unit was disbanded, but after the shooting, it was quickly brought back.

Officer Pearce will slowly rejoin the team, working four hours a week to start out with and he hopes to be on full force and in uniform, next March.
