ROCKWALL, TX -- There are some things in Texas you just don't mess with, and certain fast food chains are on that list. So, when Chick-Fil-A changed its BBQ sauce back in July, there were some pretty strong reactions.
But none were louder than Rockwall's Jared Guynes.
"Whenever they did this switch, it was like pulling the rug out from underneath people," Guynes told NewsFix. "One day it was one way and the next day it was different."
Guynes has earned a huge online following, largely due to throwing epic events. Naturally, he took to Facebook Live to express first his love for Chick-Fil-A, then his hatred of their "Smokehouse BBQ" sauce.
"This is not Chick-Fil-A! This is not real barbecue sauce!" He shouts in the video. "This is not the Chick-Fil-A experience!"
"I deliberately got extra loud and exaggerated and animated," Guynes said. "Because I knew that if I did that, there'd be very good odds of getting a lot of views online."
That strategy paid off big time. Between Facebook and YouTube, the video has close to 50,000 views, including some at Chick-Fil-A HQ. The President of Menu Design made a video response for Jared, saying that among those complaining about the saucy change, he was "definitely the loudest."
Yeah, and sometime in November, CFA restaurants across the country will switch back to their original recipe BBQ sauce.
Now, Guynes acknowledges that he wasn't the only reason for the change of heart, but might have been "the straw that broke the camel's back," and considers it a victory all the same. And a tasty reminder of the power of social media.
"The barbecue sauce is silly," Guynes said, "But the example, I think, is very real. You can use social media as an agent for change."
