The most wonderful time of the year is slowly approaching for many North Texans: it’s officially the State Fair of Texas season. The State Fair of Texas allows many of us to dine on some our favorite foods each year that bring back so many amazing memories.

What makes the State Fair of Texas so great is they’re considered to be the fried food capital. This means you can get pretty much any and everything fried at the State Fair. Many of these fried foods may seem absurd to some, but once you try them, you may (or may not) be begging for more.
Here are a few of the wackiest fried foods available at the State Fair of Texas to get yourself prepared for the State Fair festivities.

Note: The State Fair of Texas runs September 30-October 23, 2016.

Deep-Fried Brownies

Who doesn’t love a good brownie? At the State Fair of Texas, you can try a delicious deep fried brownie.

The deep fried brownie is gooey, soft brownie dough, dipped in a sweet batter and fried. It’s topped off with powdered sugar and chocolate sauce.

Deep-fried brownies are enough to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth.

Fried Carrot Cake

This fried concoction definitely takes the cake. The Holy Moly Carrot Cake turns carrot cake into a delectable fried dessert.

The fried carrot cake is a golden baked bread with swirls of cinnamon filled with carrot cake pieces, raisins, and of course, julienned carrots. Afterwards, the mixture is combined nice coating of cream cheese, cinnamon, nutmeg, graham crackers and pancake.

To complete the Holy Moly Carrot Cake, it’s drizzled with a glazed, carrot shaped candy and comes with a serving of caramel sauce and caramel macchiato cream sauce.

Fried Peanut Butter, Jelly and Banana Sandwich

The Fried Peanut Butter, Jelly, and Banana Sandwich has been a hit at the State Fair since its debut in 2005. This isn’t the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches you grew up loving as a kid.

It’s pretty much a PB&J that’s been frozen, dipped in a secret batter and flash fried. It’s then lightly dusted with powder sugar for perfection.

Fried Jell-O

Fried Jell-O will make its debut at the State Fair this year. It puts an interesting twist on a classic dessert.

The Fried Jell-O consists of the classic cherry-flavored Jell-O dipped in a panko-crusted breading. It’s then flash-fried, topped off with powdered sugar, whipped cream, and a fresh cherry.

Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll

Bacon and cinnamon Rolls, what a perfect combination.

The Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll is a cinnamon roll dipped in a sweet pancake batter. The batter is then rolled in fried bacon pieces, deep-fried and dusted with powder sugar.

Frito Pies are already a staple meal for any true Texan. After all, Fritos were created here in the Lone Star State. The State Fair of Texas decided to put an extra crispy twist on the Frito Pie by frying it.

The Texas Fried Frito Pie is a blend of cheese, chili, and Fritos that’s been dipped in batter and fried. It’s served with sour cream and salsa.

Deep-Fried Bacon Burger Dog Slider

The Deep-fried Bacon Burger Dog Slider is another new addition to the State Fair menu. It’s made specifically for the meat lovers out there.

What exactly is a Deep-Fried Bacon Burger Dog Slider?

Well, it features a mini ground beef patty stuffed with bacon, cheddar cheese, and a beef hot dog on a Hawaiian roll. It’s then placed on a skewer alongside a pickle, then dipped in a tempura batter and deep-fried. The Deep-Fried Bacon Burger Dog Slider comes with shoe string french fries and ranch dipping sauce.

Deep-Fried Turkey Leg

Ah, yes. The good ole turkey leg. Turkey Legs are an essential food item to get while at the State Fair. Now, we’re all used to the Turkey legs being smoked, but did you know you can also get them fried?

Only at the State Fair of Texas will you find an oversized fried turkey leg.

Fried bubblegum may sound a little crazy, but not for the State Fair of Texas.

The fried bubblegum is actually a bubblegum-flavored marshmallow that’s been dipped in batter and fried. The concoction is then drizzled with colorful icing and topped off with Chiclet gum.

Cookie Fries

Is it a cookie or a french fry? Well, it’s kinda both.

Cookie Fries will also be introduced at the State Fair this year. They strikingly resemble crinkle cut fries, but they’re actually cookies. The cookie fries will come in both chocolate chip or sprinkles and served with your choice of milk chocolate or strawberry dipping sauce.
