DALLAS -- Helicopters, SCUBA divers, and search dogs were scouring the Turtle Creek area Wednesday all in the search for a missing SMU officer swept away by flood waters.
“Now that the water level has decreased even more so than yesterday, a lot of things have revealed themselves we weren’t able to search yesterday,” James Evans with Dallas Fire Rescue said Wednesday.
SMU has now confirmed the missing man is Mark McCullers, who was a marine for nearly 10 years and father of six.
According to Dallas fire rescue, on Tuesday around 1:30am McCullers was working off-duty as a private security guard at a construction site when rushing water started to overtake his car. Although the vehicle was pulled from the creek, McCullers has not been found.
“We are aware of how high the water got in some areas and the possibility that anything could have ended up lodged in a tree. So we`re making sure we keep our eyes up down and all around as much as we can,” Evans said.
His brother in law, Ben Nix released a statement saying:
“Mark was devoted in his faith in god and to his family. My sister and Mark have an amazing love. For the last eight years they have dedicated themselves to each other and their blended family of six wonderful children who will cherish the time they were able to spend as a family.”
Nix acknowledges time and circumstances are not on their side, but the family says they are focusing their attention on bringing Mark home.
