New ‘Arrow’ Crossover: WWE’s Cody Rhodes Is Coming To Starling City

Although he’s typically seen wearing a green hood and retracting an arrow, Stephen Amell has been known to step into the squared circle and throw down. Now, his onetime WWE nemesis will be returning the favor, joining the “Arrow” actor in Starling City.

The 35-year-old Amell made the announcement via Facebook Live on Saturday (July 2) that Cody Rhodes — who once wrestled under the name Stardust and battled him last year at SummerSlam — will be appearing in an unnamed role on the upcoming season of the CW show. He broadcast the news from Heroes & Villains Fanfest in New Jersey, where he and Rhodes appeared together.

“Before we get going, we have an announcement,” Amell said in the panel. “We have a new guest star on ‘Arrow’ this year: Mr. Cody Rhodes. I’m so fired up for this guy; he and I haven’t really had much of a chance to talk about it but we’ve been friends for a little over a year now. I know that Cody has really wanted to get into the acting business. He went to LA, he read for a part, and his deal closed yesterday and the dude is going to be on ‘Arrow’ and I’m so fired up.”

“Guest starring on ‘Arrow’ this fall…,” Amell then re-confirmed via tweet. “Mr. Cody Rhodes.”

Following their feud, Amell and Rhodes have forged a friendship. The duo appeared at Dallas Comic Con together in February, with Rhodes hand-delivering a Slammy Award to Amell for his guest appearances in the ring and teasing the possibility of a second match without tag-team partners. Rhodes then asked for a release from the WWE in May, and now seems to have acting on his mind — presumably, without the face paint and creepy contacts.

Rhodes is among the actors being cast as Season 5 of the superhero show gears up. It should be interesting to see which side of the Amell/Rhodes relationship will be embraced, as Rhodes seems just as likely to play a friend of Oliver Queen as he does an enemy.

Season 5 of “Arrow” is scheduled to premiere October 5, alongside the comedy “No Tomorrow.”
