To kick off the back half of Season 3, Reign has seen Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) send her lover, Robert Dudley (Charlie Carrick), to France to wed Mary (Adelaide Kane) — but will he comply?

In Zap2it’s exclusive clip from the May 9 episode, titled Strange Bedfellows, Mary and Robert bond over their archery skills and discuss their impending nuptials — and the political advantages their union brings.

“It’s funny, isn’t it? The two of us here, both know we’ve already had our one true love,” says Robert.

“Still, you do as your queen commands, Lord Dudley … King consort of Scotland, that’s not so bad, is it?” says Mary.

“Neither is being named Elizabeth’s successor. Becoming next in line to the English throne validates you as a female monarch, allows you to rally waning support,” he responds. “I can’t imagine things have been easy of late, always finding yourself a guest at French court while your country turns against you.”
