IRVING, TX -- Wind in your hair, foot on the throttle you're ready to ride! But don't hit the gas just yet.

While warm weather brings out a lot of two-wheeled drivers, more than 400 motorcyclists were killed in crashes just last year in the Lone Star state, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

Keeping people alive while riding is why TXDoT is devoting the whole month of May to motorcycle safety awareness. Safety clinics, provided bike checkups, and more are part of the program.

The goal is to educate North Texas before hitting the road.

But if burning rubber isn't your thing and you still like to ride on two wheels, you’ve got plenty of other options.

Like Irving’s Annual Bike Fest. The event keeps your bike knowledge on point with popular activities and a free opportunity to learn more about bicycling in Irving.

Just remember, before you get rolling on any set of wheels, motor or not, a good rider has balance, judgment and good timing. Now let’s ride!
