BRENHAM — Blue Bell Ice Cream is recalling selected pints of Rocky Road Ice Cream packaged at the Blue Bell plant in Brenham because of a health risk for people allergic to soy and wheat. The Rocky Road package may actually contain Cookies ‘n Cream Ice Cream, which contains soy and wheat not declared on the package. Those allergens may cause a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction risk for people with allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or wheat.

A Blue Bell employee discovered the packaging error while restocking ice cream at a store. Blue Bell says no illnesses have been reported so far and there are no other safety concerns other than for people allergic to soy or wheat.

Recalled pints have a Rocky Road pint with a Cookies ‘n Cream lid, containing Cookies ‘n Cream Ice Cream, and will will have the code 022918576 on the bottom of the pint.

The ice cream was distributed to retail outlets, food service accounts, convenience stores, and supermarkets in Texas and Louisiana.

Anyone who’s purchased the recalled items can return them to place of purchase for a full refund.

Blue Bell has a hotline number for consumers with questions, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. CST.
