DALLAS -- You may not want to think about how dangerous Mother Nature can be, especially on a nice weekend like this, but it's always a good idea to be prepared. Because you never know when the next fire, flood, or tornado will be.

And it turns out this is actually the perfect weekend to make sure you are prepared for whatever is thrown at you next. That's because the powers that be in Austin have granted this weekend sales tax-free on emergency preparation supplies!

"All these items you would need to help take care of you and your family in times of a disaster," said Michelle Tanner of the American Red Cross.

So what's on the list? Things like batteries, first aid kits, phone chargers, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, portable generators, coolers, and more.

The timing of this may be perfect, too.

"The weather is going to be predicted to be pretty rough next week," said Tanner. "So having all these supplies on hand is essential for you and your family."

Hopefully, you never have to use these supplies, but if you're hit with a disaster, it's better to have them and not need them, than need them and not have them.
