PLANO, TX — Jessica Genovese earns merit badges and black belts, and she’s our Class Act of the Week, brought to you by Time Warner Cable.
Jessica is a sophomore at Fusion Academy in Plano. She is also a senior Girl Scout, a lifelong dedication that has taught her a lot.
“Girl Scouts has taught me to be a sister to everybody,” Jessica told NewsFix. “Even if somebody is rude to you or they don’t like you, it’s always nice to be kind and be a sister every girl scout and everybody that you don’t know.”
And being a part of the Girl Scouts has turned her into a voracious volunteer.
“I’m involved in Operation Kindness, the Salvation Army through Angel Tree and soup kitchens, Tango Tab,” she said.
But when she’s not volunteering or selling Thin Mints, she’s sparring and breaking boards! Yeah, Jessica is a second degree black-belt in Tae-Kwan Do.
“I’ve been in Tae-Kwan Do for five years now,” Jessica recounted. “I started off and I was kind of shy, but it’s really nice because it shows you discipline and how to stand up for yourself and it really helps prepare you for life.”
Yeah, stepping onto that mat is the source of unlimited life lessons.
“The biggest challenges with Tae-Kwan Do is definitely sometimes you feel defeated, and you have to just get back up and try even harder," she said. "And you know that it's not going to be easy, because you are competing against guys and girls, but I think that just makes you tougher in the end.”
A caring sister with the Girl Scout vest on, and tough as nails when she ties up that black belt! Yeah, keep on giving back and landing kicks Jessica!
