VENICE, CA – It’s April 20, as in 4/20. So you know what that means, right? It’s the official holiday for stoners to get high out of their minds.

Yep, for those of you who don’t know, the date 4/20 stems from the meet-up time 4:20 p.m., where a group of California high school students named the ‘Waldos’ used to meet up and search for pot plants back in the 70’s . Fast-forward 40 years, 4/20 is becoming more commercialized than it’s ever been.

According to Market Watch, legal cannabis sales will spike 25% today, bringing in around $5 million.

Holy smokes!

Even social media giants like Snapchat are joining in on the celebration. Well, kinda. They created a Bob Marley filter, which has a lot of people in an uproar. Folks think using the image of the reggae great is disrespectful and suggests his legacy is more about his pot smoking than his music. Some are even calling the filter black face.

But this is smoke and mirrors for those looking to keep 4/20 under the radar.

“I celebrate. I smoke everyday, but 4/20 is a special day. I smoke big kush blunts, let’s say that,” Myron Bettles told NewsFix.

So from calling in with a ‘high’ fever, to indulge, to pot parties – heck it’s even National Cheese Fries Day, for those who need to feed those munchies.

Hybrid or Sativa, illegal or legal – Happy 4/20 !
