DENTON -- A wrong way accident took the lives of two mothers and two daughters. Denton PD believes a cell phone may be to blame.
The accident happened on Ft. Worth Drive when 26-year-old Ashley Morgan and her 4-year-old daughter Lorelei Cotter crossed the center line. They crashed head-on into 41-year-old Emma Lourdes Shaffer and her 12-year-old daughter, Tita.
No one survived the horrific crash.
Investigators are now revealing that Morgan's cell phone was in use immediately prior to the crash. The latest info about the accident raises even more awareness about the potential dangers of distracted driving.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every day 8 people are killed and almost 12,000 crashes happen due to a distracted driver. It's the reason why organizations are raising awareness about the issue every way possible.
There's now a memorial in honor of Tita at Champion Cheer in Southlake where she was a cheerleader. A makeshift memorial still sits at the site of the accident where the lives of two families were changed forever.
Think about that the next time you pick up your phone while you're driving.
