DALLAS -- Feels like the one thing that is really big about Big D is the violent crime rate. Monday night into Tuesday morning, Dallas had five more shooting cases, including this one on Southland street.

“Our officers really do need support from citizens to be able to do their job in the correct way,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown said.

So to Back the Blue, a controversial Dallas figure is throwing his support to Dallas PD.

“We think as Christians, we ought to be commending law enforcement officials for their sacrificial services on our behalf,” said Pastor Robert Jeffress.

Pastor Jeffress is no stranger to letting folks know how he feels about hot topic issues -- from gay marriage to abortion. But Jeffress says Tuesday’s announcement goes beyond political  perspectives and they want to help those who wear the badge.

“We’re making available to our Dallas Police Department and their families our counseling center free of charge,” Jeffress said.

“We do need to hear from citizens that they appreciate the things that our officers do in protecting the citizens of Dallas,”  Chief Brown added.

Sunday starts the Back the Blue initiative at First Baptist Dallas, and God only knows that those who wear the badge could use all the support they can get.
