Another cast member from “The Vampire Diaries” has announced his exit, and this one might be a game-changer.

At 2016 WalkerStalkerCon on Sunday (April 10), Ian Somerhalder confirmed that Season 8 of the CW vampire drama will be the last for Damon Salvatore. “We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice,” Somerhalder says. “My role is shifting in the show, and we have a lot to do basically.”

While The CW has not yet issued a formal statement saying that Season 8 will be the last for “The Vampire Diaries,” Somerhalder’s exit seems to confirm what fans have been suspecting for a while now.

After all, Damon has been a focal point for the show — along with his on screen brother, Stefan (Paul Wesley) — for so long that it seems impossible to carry on the show without him.

Now, with Nina Dobrev no longer playing Elena, and Kat Graham set to exit after Season 8 as well, it seems that our time in Mystic Falls is coming to an end.

“The Vampire Diaries” airs Fridays at 7 p.m. CT on The CW.
