DALLAS -- Cops are investigating a string of four overnight shootings in the Pleasant Grove area.

According to an arrest affidavit, the first shooting happened around 10 p.m. on Galicia Lane. Police say Danny Evelio Cruz went looking for his ex-wife. That's where Jose Nicholas Olivas' was shot and killed.

Dallas Fire Rescue later responded to a fire at the crime scene.

"We're expecting that there might be some foul play possibly because we cant find the true origin," Chief Terence Lyon explained. "There's no cause , there's nothing on the stove, in the kitchen, nothing to cause it other than probably some help."

Police say Cruz then went to a house on Kittyhawk lane 10 minutes after the first shooting. When his ex-wife's mother came to the door, he shot her in the hip. She's now at Baylor Hospital and is expected to recover.

Cruz was later arrested and taken into custody.

Ironically, just eight minutes later, a third shooting was reported at the Adams Food Mart on Bruton Road. Witnesses say an SUV pulled up and opened fire on several people. This time, cops say a man and a woman were shot. They're also at Baylor in stable condition.

Two hours later, cops say another man was shot in the back at Marisol Apartments. Last check, he was in serious condition.

The suspects involved in the Adams Food Mart and Marisol Apartments incidents are still at large.

It's  no secret the violent crime rate is sky high in Dallas and Police Chief Brown addressed the overnight crime at a public safety meeting Monday.

"Whether it's fair or not I'm still responsible for the public safety of the city so no excuses here," Brown commented.
