When Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) revealed she was turning in her Team Arrow badge and walking away from the superhero life — and Oliver (Stephen Amell) — it was a tough pill for Arrow fans to swallow. Sadly, it’s not a plot twist that’s going to be quickly figured out.

Speaking to Zap2it at WonderCon, executive producer Marc Guggenheim says, “In episode 17, we get to see the team trying to function — having to function — without Felicity. While at the same time, we get to see Felicity dealing with her own issues with the Bug Eyed Bandit (Emily Kinney), without necessarily the benefit of the team.”

How does either half function without the other? Sadly, based on what Guggenheim says, not very well.

“I don’t want to spoil it, but it’s not something we just immediately deal with in 17 and move on from,” he teases. “You’ll see the consequences of it.”

So strap in and get ready for a bumpy ride. After all, if you remember the flash-forward to the grave and the funeral, Felicity is still very icy toward Oliver. They’re certainly not acting like teammates — unless she’s a ghost and he’s imagining her, which could totally happen.

At the very least, “Beacon of Hope” will be a fun episode, if Guggenheim has anything to say about it. “It’s probably the lightest, funniest episode of Arrow we’ve ever done,” he says.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 7 p.m. on CW33.
