Happiness, Charles M. Schulz famously observed, is a warm puppy.

Today, on National Puppy Day, there’s always plenty of happiness to go around. The day was created to bring awareness to promote adoption and proper care while educating the public about the horrors of puppy mills.

Don’t take them for granted:

• Give them time and effort, just as you would a small child.

• Get them socialized so they can play with other dogs and be around other people. Good doggie manners are a plus.

• Spay or neuter your pet. You shouldn’t need Bob Barker to tell you this.

Pretty easy, right?

If you’re ready for a puppy, no doubt there’s one ready for you.

Nothing will make you happier.
