EULESS, TX -- For those who knew him, and those he never met, Ofc. David Hofer was a hero.

Thousands gathered on a warm Saturday afternoon to pay their final respects to the man who paid the ultimate sacrifice in uniform.

Ofc. Hofer was shot in killed in the line of duty Tuesday afternoon while responding to a call at Carr Park. He had been an officer with Euless PD for just two years. Ironically, Hofer moved from NYPD to Texas, seeking a safer department.

He was engaged to be married. Those dreams and many others will never be realized.

Ofc. Hofer will be buried in New York.
