SAN JOSE, Calif. — We all know about the concern of concussions and football. Now, a new one — herpes and wrestling.
A star California high school wrestler says he got herpes from a wrestling mat during a tournament last month, KGO reports.
Blake Flovin has blisters all over his face from Herpes gladiatorum — a lifelong infection that can flare up at any time and is widespread in the wrestling community.
There’s major concern Blake may have spread the infection to other high school wrestlers during practice. He’s asking for this weekend’s state tournament to be postponed.
But school officials aren’t heeding the warning. They say the show will go on — with doctors on hand.
