LOS ANGELES – A man in his 80s spent four days trapped inside a wooden newsstand during a California heatwave.
The 84-year-old newspaper vendor was seeking shelter from the weather when he somehow got locked inside a stand in Harvard Heights, according to LAPD.
Along with the heat, which surpassed 90°, the man had no access to food or water.
The door to the small structure closed on the man Thursday afternoon and he wasn't found until Monday afternoon when a passerby heard a moaning sound from inside.
Police officers carried the man, who was badly dehydrated and on the brink of starvation – but alive – out of the newsstand around 3 p.m. Monday. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
