MURPHY -- Two 17-year-old friends, both students at Plano East High School, apparently died within hours of each other.

Murphy Police say Ritu Sachdeva and  Hillary Kate Kuizon appear to have both committed suicide.

Ritu's family called 911 after discovering her body inside their home while Kate was found by police in a wooded area near a local football stadium. So far, there are no answers. No reason to explain why.

“We’re losing a young person to suicide in the Dallas-Fort Worth area at the rate of two per week,”  Vanita Halliburton told NewsFix.

The statistics are shocking, but Vanita Halliburton knows the numbers all too well after her 19-year-old son, Grant, took his own life in 2005.

“He had suffered from depression and bipolar disorder for several years and ultimately gave up his hope of being well and took his own life,” Halliburton said.

Since his death, the Grant Halliburton Foundation has made it their mission to help educate teens and parents on the warning signs that someone is thinking about taking their life.

Those who are struggling now  are the families  and friends of the two teens.

“My heart breaks every time I hear of a loss of a child," Halliburton said. "I’ve been there. It's a long road to understanding and healing.”
