LONDON -- Everybody and their mama is anticipating the big screen biopic on the King of Pop. Unfortunately, the movie Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon isn't it.
UK directors are producing a made-for-TV movie that tells the story of a road trip that MJ allegedly took with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
But the drama surrounding that urban legend isn't what's currently stirring up controversy. It's who's been cast to play the role of Michael Jackson. Turns out, award-winning actor Joseph Fiennes has won over the producers.
We can all agree that he's not the "man in the mirror," and he's definitely not black! Then again, back in 2001 Michael's skin wasn't either.
Critics on Twitter are even calling out whoever is behind this casting call...
Not to mention, the timing of this announcement is pretty... BAD. Let's just say the whole #OscarsSoWhite drama just got a whole lot whiter.
Hmmm... wonder if the late great's lyrics "It don't matter if you're black or white" still applies?
