VALLEY RANCH — It’s that terrible first Sunday without Cowboys football! Yeah, while the playoffs roar on, the Boys are stuck at home… again.
But while the season is over, the off-season craziness is just about to begin, and Dallas will have plenty of work to do!
Eighteen players will soon be unrestricted free agents and the team will have to make the choice of who they want back, and who they’ll let walk.
On the offense, the big name that sticks out is Lance Dunbar. Dunbar was a huge threat out of the backfield this year, catching 21 passes for 215 yards in just 4 games before he was lost for the season with an ACL tear.
Meanwhile on the defense, the choices get much harder. Mo Claiborne’s contract is up, and while the former first round pick has been considered a bust, he turned in his best season in 2015.
On the frontline, two more names pop up: Greg Hardy and Jeremy Mincey. Yeah, Hardy made plenty of headlines for the wrong reasons this year, but he also notched 6 sacks in 10 games. Is he worth another shot? Does Garrett even want him back?
As for Mincey, he’s made it clear he wants to keep wearing silver and blue.
“I’m optimistic about the future. Hopefully it’s with the Dallas Cowboys.” said Mincey on Monday while cleaning out his locker, “If not I’ll still be Jeremy Mincey regardless of where I land.”
So, let the negotiating begin; let’s just hope the off-season goes better than the actual season.
