DALLAS -- The legend of Baxter is unconfirmed. But rumor has it, it all started when he was punted off a bridge in San Diego. All we know for sure about the legend of Baxter is that he ended up on the streets of Dallas, trying to make it as a stray.

“He was just hanging out on the streets, being typical Baxter, barking at all the dogs that came by,” says Haley Edman, marketing director for Dallas Pets Alive!

It was clear Baxter was pent up in a glass case of emotion.

“He was just so timid and scared, and he just wanted to bark at everybody,” says Edman.

The barking didn’t help Baxter at the shelter, and he had other problems too.

“He was heartworm positive, he had fleas, he was dirty,” says Edman.

But Dallas Pets Alive! stepped up to save the day. Now Baxter is in a foster home, and he dabbles in some new tricks

“He’s been trained by his wonderful foster family, so he no longer lunges or barks at the dogs,” Edman explains. “He is bilingual, he speaks Spanish, but he speaks dog Spanish, so you really can’t understand what he’s saying.”

So Dallas, it’s your chance to “stay classy” with Baxter.
