GALVESTON — A beached whale beach discovered Tuesday morning in the shallows off Galveston has died, according to KPRC.

Scores of people had gathered at the scene as officials tried to rescue the stranded animal. The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network tried to help the 30-to 40-foot-long whale, but they believed it likely was sick.

The whale died later in the day. Officials have not determined its species or age.
