WAXAHACHIE, TX — Over 400 Santa’s dashed away in downtown Waxahachie on Saturday for the Third Annual 5K Santa Run.
The event is hosted by the city’s YMCA and is all about bringing the community a little Christmas spirit, with a little bit of sweat!
“I came from Michigan and we used to do this every year,” said Jon McLaughlin, the executive director of the Waxahachie YMCA, “So when I moved here, the event just made perfect sense. We’ve got the beautiful courthouse, a place to congregate and run and the city has been so inviting of this event.”
“Kids from 1 to 92” perfectly described this fun run, as Santa’s of all sizes came together.
“I feel great, well not really,” gasped Sam Vincent, moments after winning the race, “Just getting to come out here with all my friends.”
“I haven’t ran in a really long time, but it was nice to get back to running,” said Emily Mackle who came in first place for girls 10 through 15, “Seeing everyone in Santa suits and the whole community coming together, it was really nice.”
The scene was a festive one, but nine year old Natalie, who won her age category, had a simple answer when asked what her favorite part of the race was: “I got to run!”
Well she ran with determination, averaging nine-minute miles to whole way at just nine years old! Hey, with speed like that, who needs reindeer?
