VALLEY RANCH, TX — The Cowboys are back on the practice field after a long break, but all the talk is still around the guy who isn’t out there: Tony Romo.
Jerry Jones told reporters Wednesday he hopes his QB can still come back from his injuries and finish his career the way John Elway did. Elway won back-to-back Super Bowls to close out his 16-year career.
But Jones admitted this season has made finding a replacement for Romo a top priority, “We’re certainly probably even more aware how you are vulnerable with injury because this was stunning this year to experience the injuries we’ve had. I’m numb from it.”
Numb enough to make a move like trading for Johnny Football? Yeah, fire up that rumor mill again.
Would the Cowboys be willing to trade with Cleveland to bring Manziel to Big D? No way! That could end badly with the Aggie Party Boy, right?
As for this season, it’s in the hands of Matt Cassel… again. He couldn’t win a single game in his first four starts this year, but will Take Two turn out different?
“I felt more and more comfortable and better each week I got out there,” said Cassel. “Hopefully this time around, I’m much better than I was prior.”
Hey, a win on Monday Night Football against the Rival Redskins would feel pretty good in an otherwise downer of a season.
As for next season? All we know is that Romo should be ready to go by week one. Who will be backing him up is anybody’s guess!
