DUNCANVILLE — A Duncanville High School senior has been selected to play in an All-American bowl game. Marcel Southall was chosen from players nationwide to participate in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl game in January.

Marcel plays defensive tackle for the Duncanville Panthers and is the only player selected from District 8-6A to play in the game, sponsored by the United States Marine Corps. Nearly 100 elite athletes are selected for the game, with character, academic performance, and leadership factoring into final decisions.

“He has all the intangibles to be a great player,” Panther Head Varsity Football Coach Reginald Samples said. “He has the size and the speed – everything you need to be a great player in college.”

Players will represent the eastern and western halves of the country. The teams will practice Dec. 30-Jan. 2 before playing in the televised game Jan. 3 in Carson, California.

Representatives from the All-American Bowl will present Marcel with an honorary jersey Nov. 10 at the high school during an event with the team, students, and family.

“I’m grateful to have been chosen,” Marcel said. “I’m looking forward to representing Duncanville High School at the game in January.”
