LOS ANGELES — You’ve heard of “driving while black” and “walking while black.” Now several airline passengers say they were merely “flying while black,” and that got them booted off a Spirit Airlines flight from Los Angeles to DFW.

Trouble on the tarmac started Monday night at LAX. Spirit apparently overbooked the DFW flight.

Flight attendants kicked one African-American couple off because they say the man was being “disruptive.” Airport police even boarded the plane to escort them out.

Soon after, five other passengers also left. They were all black, too. Some of those passengers say it felt like African-Americans were being singled out.

But other witnesses said the flight attendants handled the situation properly.

Well, everybody ended getting on other flights and nobody was arrested or charged. And all the rest of us got out of this incident was a new hashtag: #FLYING WHILE BLACK.
