DALLAS — On Tuesday, it was out with the old and in with the new for DFW sports fans. The first piece of news came as a bit of a shock as running back Joseph Randle was officially shown the door.
The Cowboys released Randle after a troubling couple of weeks. First, he lost his starting spot to Darren McFadden, then abruptly left Valley Ranch for what the Cowboys called personal reasons.
There’s also possible punishment looming from the NFL stemming from an off-season incident involving the mother of Randle’s child. So, it looks like the Cowboys are cutting bait on this situation.
Jerry Jones talked about the decision at the groundbreaking of the Omni Frisco Hotel at the Cowboys’ future headquarters, “It’s unfortunate that he got the setback on his injury and he’ll have some other things to work out. I won’t be commenting on those right now.”

But as Randle moves on, the Mavericks move in for their home opener Tuesday night. The Mavs come off their west coast road trip 2-1 as they prepare to host the undefeated Toronto Raptors.
It was a road trip for the history books as Rick Carlisle became the franchise’s winningest coach with 340 victories.
Carlisle knows that keeping everyone healthy is the main priority right now, “I like the roster a lot. As we get healthier, we’re going to continue to get stronger as a team.”
Mavs fans had their dancing shoes ready at the pep rally early Tuesday as the Mavs ManiAACs helped drum up support for a new season. Only time will tell if the Mavs can shoot their way to the top.
Right now, this town we could use a party.
