IRVING — You’ve heard it over and over again — drinking and driving don’t mix. It looks like 36-year-old Nicole Arreola found that out the hard way early Friday morning, crashing her silver Jag into an Irving police cruiser on Highway 114.

She’s now charged with intoxication assault.

The cop in the cruiser had his emergency lights on blocking traffic for road construction when he was hit. The impact forced the cruiser off 114 and into a light pole. The cop is being treated at Parkland for a concussion, broken ribs and injuries to his shoulder.

In the arrest affidavit, cops say Arreola initially denied she was the driver, then admitted she was and had consumed five shots and a sip of beer.

Police say her eyes were bloodshot, her speech slurred, she had lost normal use of her mental and physical faculties and had defecated on herself.

Arreola’s blood alcohol level registered at .144 — nearly two times the legal driving limit.

Sounds like more than the cars were smashed.
