DALLAS -- His name might not be as well known as Miles Davis, but he's been a mainstay in the Dallas music scene for well over a decade. We're talking about Shaun Martin, a four-time Grammy winner. He's played with some of the biggest names in the R&B and the Gospel music scene.

Something he's never done -- release his own album. That is, until earlier this summer. Martin released Seven Summers, an album that took seven summers to complete.

"I looked at my hard drive and I saw the date of the first song that I recorded. And I was like, 'Wow, it's been seven years,'" says Martin, with a little bit of a chuckle.

So, why did it take seven years to complete? He says life was happening. Not only was he trying to put out his first solo album, but Snarky Puppy, a band he's a big part of, also kept him busy.

When talking about his music, Martin hopes it helps people feel good, "All the great music that we love, that's what it does. We listen to The Beatles or listen to Michael Jackson, it always reminds us of this one period in our life."

No doubt, this is just the first of many albums you'll see from Shaun Martin.

If you haven't heard of him before now, here's "Lotus."
