PURCHASE, NY -- You can count on your phone to do just about anything. Now MasterCard might be stepping things up a notch when it comes to mobile payments. Customers will soon be able to snap a selfie to make a purchase without having to pull out the plastic!

It sounds pretty simple. When you're ready to pay at the register, MasterCard will send you a notification to take a pic and confirm your identity.

Okay, we get it, the selfie is pretty popular these days, but is MasterCard taking the trend a little too far?

“It's a cool concept, but I don't see it being practical every day,” one person told NewsFix.

As an added security measure, the company says customers will have to blink while taking the selfie to prevent anyone from tricking the system.

The app is still in the works. So far, there's no release date.
