DALLAS - Need a recipe to beat the heat? Mix three parts water and one part childhood nostalgia and you'll get the Deep Ellum Water Balloon Wars
“I love doing anything that makes me feel like a kid forever,” says Abby Paulino
There were dunk tanks and slip and slides...but it all lead-up to the epic balloon battle.
“I think with adults there is a little more strategy,” says Abby Ruiz. “I pulled out my shirt and tried to gather as many as I could then chucked them at the people who were grabbing balloons.”
“I was trying to get all my friends as wet as possible with as much cold water as possible.
It wasn’t all fun and games though. The goal here was to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. All of the proceeds went to “Counseling powered by 45” a new organization in Dallas that'll offer free counseling starting this October.
“There are more suicide deaths than homicide deaths per year,” says counselor Zandra Ellis. “The deal is your human and your wanted and that is what we want everyone to know.”
A lot of fun in the sun with a serious message.
