CALCASIEU PARISH, LA – “You’re lucky, you are going to die soon.”

Those may have been the last words Senior Trooper Steven Vincent heard after being shot in the head at a traffic stop west of New Orleans on Sunday. The 43-year-old officer died Monday morning.

According to Col. Mike Edmonson, head of Louisiana State Police, Vincent drove up to Kevin Daigle, who’s pickup was stuck in a ditch, when he noticed that the truck’s plates matched a reckless vehicle reported earlier. A recording from Vincent’s cruiser reportedly shows him talking to Diagle, who then opened his car door and fired a sawed-off shotgun into Vincent’s head.

The 54-year-old shooter was then tackled by drivers passing by, and was arrested not long after.

Meantime Vincent was airlifted to the hospital. He died hours later.
