ARLINGTON, TX — The RBI World Series came to it’s climactic finish Saturday, at Globe Life Park!
“For the past week we’ve had sixteen boys baseball teams from across the country and the Caribbean here, playing in games and today we hosted the championship games.” said Karin Morris with the Texas Rangers foundation.
In the junior match to start the day off, the Dominican Republic topped Houston 12-7 to claim the top spot!
“It’s a great feeling.” said Darius Diaz, the catcher for the Dominican Republic, “You work all year to get to this place, and you make so many sacrifices without knowing whats next, and it’s just a great feeling. Thank God, man. Thank God and all these coaches that came out here with us.”
In the senior championship later in the day, the Miami Marlins RBI squad held on for a 5-4 win over Harrisburg.
The championship games gave these players an amazing opportunity to play on a big league diamond.
“It was a good experience,” said Tyrese Clayborne of the Houston Astros RBI, “I love playing in big ballparks like this.”
“For many of these kids this may be their only shot to play on a big league field, and they obviously all aspire to do it, so it’s a dream for them.” said Morris.
“They’ve had to fight, they’ve had to play regionals, all these different levels to get here and it’s a dream come true for a lot of them.”
Well, it’s been a great two weeks, starting with the softball games and ending where the Rangers call home, and we’re already looking forward to next year!
