DALLAS – There's only so much you can do with a dollar these days. And going to the zoo is usually way more expensive, especially if you want to take the whole family – except on dollar day.

Kids of all sizes got a chance to sneak a peek at their favorite animals at the Dallas Zoo, all for a buck!

And this was one for the record books -- 41,422 guests showed up today. WOW! That's 6,000 more than last year's Dollar Day record.  So many folks showed up, they opened the gates an hour early.

But it all seemed to be worth the madness, especially since the Dollar Day last July was rained out, which led to a "do over day" in August. So, the good news, no rain on this day. But with temps near triple digits, beating the heat was what it was all about.

The heat didn't stop these eager beavers from getting up close and personal with the animals. It's been a year of new arrivals, with Kipenzi, whose birth was watched all over the world.

It's safe to say Dollar Day at the Zoo is a deal that's never too hot to pass up.
