FAIR PARK --Have you ever felt you were destined for greatness? Destined for something more than what you’re currently doing?
Then, you have something in common with the main character taking center stage at Fair Park Music Hall.
Pippin follows the adventures of a young man, Pippin, who’s trying to find his place in the world; a world that often feels much like a three ring circus, which explains the spectacular stunts and amazing acrobatic tricks that unfold on stage.
The Voice finalist, Sasha Allen, steps into the iconic role immortalized by Ben Vereen.
"When you do take on a role like this you have to make it personal," Allen explained. "When I first read the character, I had to think of it not as Ben Vereen, and really just listen to what this person was doing and saying.”
"This has been the best role I’ve ever done. It’s been the most complex; it’s been the most fun. It’s been the most challenging and I guess that’s why continue to grow in the role.”
Playing Pippin’s father is legendary actor, John Rubinstein. He played the original Pippin, on Broadway, back in 1972. “I just felt to me, perhaps self-deprecatingly, no show would want me as its lead player, would ever succeed.”
Now, over 40-years later, Rubinstein is back, performing with the national tour. "There’s something about my physical and emotional makeup that works best doing eight shows a week,” Rubinstein said.
Not to mention, another famous face in the cast, Lucy Arnaz. Yes, we’re talking the daughter of I Love Lucy herself.
The all-star cast takes you on a death-defying, magical journey in hopes of finding that ever elusive “corner of the sky.”
Pippin runs through July 19th at Fair Park Music Hall, then it swings over to the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth.
Hey, like the musical says, “there’s magic to do.”
