DALLAS — Ask many Texans to name something that symbolizes our great state and they’ll most likely say the cowboy hat. Well, thanks to Governor Greg Abbott, it’s now an official state symbol.

But that’s not all that is now newly official. For centuries, Texas has been called the “Lone Star State.” Well guess what? That saying is now the Official Nickname of Texas.

The Governor also approved other surprising symbols for the state — the Western Bumble Bee is the Official Pollinator of Texas and Gulf Coast Shrimp is the Official Texas Crustacean.
