ARLINGTON – Well it`s official, the Cowboys first pick in this year`s draft is Byron Jones. Who is Byron Jones you ask?
Well for starters he hails from the small state of Connecticut where he played for the Huskies. But jones literally jumped onto the scene during this year`s combine where he set the world record in the standing long jump at 12 feet, 3 inches.
Jones also came within a half inch of tying the record for the vertical leap with 44.5 inches. Good thing AT&T Stadium has a hole in the roof huh? What’s more, this high jumper clocked in a 4.36 on his 40-yard dash at UConn’s pro-day.
No wonder the Cowboys were so excited to get this guy with their 27th pick. The head coach could barely contain himself while talking on the phone with the new Cowboy, “A lot of excitement in this war room down here in Dallas man. You just made a hell of an impression on us in so many different ways. On the field but maybe more importantly the kind of guy you are.”
The pick addresses the cowboys glaring need for help in the secondary and also gives them more leverage to make high price corner, Brandon Carr, agree to a take a pay cut. Plus Jones is versatile and could play both corner and safety.
The best part of this draft pick? No off-field drama surrounding jones, the Boys already have enough of that.
So Cowboys Nation, welcome our newest star Byron Jones to town. Looks like his stock just jumped through the roof.
