SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Two employees of the San Diego-based Bumblebee Foods Company have been hit with criminal charges, after the death of employee Jose Melena who was trapped inside an industrial oven back in 2012. In October of 2012, prosecutors say the colleagues, and the company itself, “willfully violated” rules for workers entering confined spaces and procedures requiring equipment be turned off if someone’s working on it.
