CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The University of Virginia is the latest place invaded by protesters demanding answers from local authorities. More than 1,000 people gathered to support honor student and UVA Junior Martese Johnson.
Video taken of Johnson being tackled by alcohol and beverage agents outside an Irish Pub has many in shock.
20-year-old Johnson was allegedly turned away from the pub after attempting to use a fake ID and he attracted the attention of the officers. For whatever reason, the situation quickly escalated and Johnson was thrown to the ground, hitting his head on the cement.
The gash on Johnson’s head covered his face in blood and required 10 stitches.
He was charged with obstruction of justice and public intoxication.
The harsh nature of the arrest has sparked anger and many people are calling for something serious to be done. Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe has launched an investigation into the excessive force claims and the arresting officers in question have been restricted to administrative duties.
