Tulsa v SMU

DALLAS, TX — The SMU Mustangs topped Tulsa 67-62 on Sunday to clinch the regular season American Athletic Conference. It’s the school’s first regular season conference championship since 1993.

After the game, head coach Larry Brown had praise for his team, but knows their fight is just beginning.

“Everything right now is like a seventh game in the NBA. It’s one-and-done,” Brown said. “We’ve got to enjoy this, because we beat a terrific team that was really well prepared and played unbelievably hard and had a great year.”

The conference championship means that SMU is all but guaranteed a spot in the NCAA National Tournament. That’s good news for Pony fans still smarting over last March’s snub from the selection committee.

SMU will enter the AAC Basketball Championship as the conference’s #1 seed, and they’ll face off against either Central Florida or East Carolina next Friday at Noon in Hartford, CT.
