MENLO PARK, CA – Hey, it’s pretty normal for people to talk about how and where they want to be laid to rest when the time comes. But what folks aren’t talking about? What to do with their data after death. You know, what happens to your social media accounts when you’re no longer here to post?
Well now, Facebook is allowing you to put your social life in someone else’s hands once you move on to the after-life.
Yep! Check out your security settings. You can click on a legacy contact – they got to be a Facebook user too – and delegate them as the caretaker of your account if you should, well, kick the bucket.
Here’s the deal, they won’t be able to post as you or see you messages, but they will be able to post to your timeline, respond to new friend requests and update you profile pic.
Wait, there’s more. Once Facebook is alerted you’ve signed off for good, they’ll slap remembering in front of your name so it won’t confuse folks.
Well, hopefully your friends will know you died.
Plan B. You can also simply have your account deleted, but someone will have to tell Facebook you’re dead.
Hey people, here’s a chance to rest in social peace.
