PLANO,TX -Some call it the golden rule: treat others as you'd like to be treated.

Well that's what the City of Plano wants to practice by passing an Equal Rights Ordinance, which bans businesses from discriminating against the LGBT community.

Hey , that's pretty progressive, Plano! But as you would imagine, this proposal had some business owners and religious groups saying “no way.”

Yeah, some shops even signed petitions, protesting the ordinance, saying they have the right to refuse service to customers.

Hmm, remember that Oregon baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple? Yeah, well she was ultimately forced to close-up shop after word got out.

Come on guys this is 2015, have we learned nothing about equality?

Well now, religious groups in Plano are coming out in support of the ordinance.

“As members of this community of faith we pledge our hearts, hands, and talents to support the equal rights ordinance,” said Rev. Patrick Price.

Score one for supporters! But it's clear the idea of equality for everyone isn't something everyone can get behind.

Hey, it looks like this conversation is far from over, but these folks want to get straight to the issue: equal rights for everyone!
