MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma -- Cops have been defending an officer who shot and killed a man last weekend. On Friday, they released the video they say backs up their story.

The officer was called to a wedding where the suspect reportedly showed up with a gun, threatening to kill someone.

When the officer tried to pat down the man, he took off on foot with the cop running behind. The man dropped something and picked it up. We froze the video before it shows the fatal shots being fired.

"This officer had a split second to make that decision," said Muskogee Police Sgt. Mike Mahan. "We believe he acted according to his training."

Cops say the suspect dropped a gun and pointed it at the officer. They did find a gun -- loaded and cocked -- next to the suspect's body.

"From everything we can see in the video, the officer responded appropriately," Mahan said. "We feel he protected himself and the public around him."
