DECATUR, TX --  "We have a completely fenced in yard. Jack loves to run. Loves to play," Robin Lewis of Decatur explained.

Her mischievous dog also likes to escape from the yard.  After Christmas, he did just that.

"Jack went missing December 27th. He got out of our yard and went visiting over to a friend's house," said Lewis.

That friend happens to be the Mayor of Decatur, Martin Woodruff, whose daughter was visiting with her two dogs, Loki and Torchy.

"In the morning about 8, 8:30, our dogs were back here in our backyard. My wife in the house heard a couple of barks. A few minutes later when she went outside to call the dogs and bring them back in, they had vanished," Mayor Woodruff said.

At first, they thought the dogs were just wandering around town. But they soon realized that wasn't the case.  Their search led them to the Wise County Facebook Page for Missing and Lost Dogs.

"You see that over the course of last 12 weeks or so. Over 40 dogs have gone missing," Lewis said.

That's right.  Over 40 dogs reported missing.

"It appears now that they were probably taken," Mayor Woodruff said.

"I think someone is stealing our dogs," Lewis said.

They're hoping anyone with information will call the Wise County Sheriff's Office.

"It's disheartening,"  Woodruff said.  "I would certainly hope that the culprits involved in this are found and can be Charged to the fullest extent of the law."
