SURABAYA, Indonesia – It has been weeks since AirAsia Flight 8501 vanished from radar and crashed into the Java sea, killing 162 people on board. While search crews continue to look for bodies, Indonesian officials now say that the plane climbed too fast, which can cause commercial jets to stall.

According to Indonesian Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan, the average speed of a climbing commercial plane is 1,000-2,000 feet per minute. But radar data showed that the plane ascended at 6,000 feet per minute.
